The ‘Halve Maen’ was a ship built in 1609, owned and operated by the Dutch East India Company, which sailed to what is nowadays known as New York. The ship’s Captain was Henry Hudson, also known for lending his name to the ‘Hudson River’. In Hoorn, you can visit the replica of the ‘Halve Maen’ and get a true understanding of how hard 17th century ship life must have been.
